Little Red Riding Hood

Hi cuties,

this weekend, I sewed something for myself, which I haven't done for a while, or so it seems to me. I had and still have so many ideas for my little etsy shop!
But last week I stumbled upon a skirt I made ages ago. It was made very horribly, so I never really wore it, but the fabric is so pretty, so I couldn't throw it away either. I just never knew what to do with it, until I got a sudden inspiration: I'll just make a cape out of it!

My obsession with capes started because of this movie:

Do you know it? In German, it's called Drei Haselnüsse für Aschenbrödel. It's a super kitschy movie which is usually aired on TV around Christmas, but I really like it. You should definitively watch it if you haven't seen it yet!
Anyways, there's a scene where she wears a cape. Since then, I adore capes with hoods. Plus they go really well with Lolita, since they don't disturb the silhouette and are also a little decadent, because you can only wear them in spring or fall when you don't need a jacket but it's also not too hot, so they're rather an accessoire (in my humble opinion). But a very elegant one!

So when I knew what to make with the fabric, I dug out some red rose trim, which I hadn't known either what to use for. I got it once as a present, and it's very delicate.

The fabric is a wine red fake suede leather, and the lace trim is more blood-red, but I think they mesh astonishingly well. At least, I like the look.

Because I didn't have so much lace, the hem turned out a little less wide than I had in mind. Normally, I prefer it when it's wider and swings nicely, but the only alternative would have been to omit the hood, which I didn't want to.

Looking back, I probably should have lined the hood completely instead of just a trim, but I ran out of fabric and hadn't anything matching at home.

As a little extra, I adorned the seams with some decorative stitching. My sewing machine offers a wide selection of stitches, which I hardly ever use. Actually a shame.

As you might have guessed, I made this cape in the first place to match my Red Riding Hood jsk by Btssb. The fabric of the cape matches the one in the print pretty well:

I'm looking forward to wear this coordinate, but probably not in near future. Carnival season starts in march. Not the best time to wear Lolita, to be honest.

When Spring Comes Before Winter Started

Heyhey,

how are you, my lovely readers?
It's strange, it was so warm today, it felt a little bit like spring. Where's my beloved winter? Oh, how I'm looking forward to cold weather with lots of snow and ice!
I spent the last few days away from the computer, which was extremely relaxing - maybe I should do this oftener. Yesterday, my mum and I made christmas cookies, yummy (^.^)
I didn't have my camera with me, but here are some other pics from this week.

snack for university

Had the chance to see this movie this week. It's not as bad as I was afraid it would be, in fact, it's quite inspiring. Apparently my love for fairytales exceeds the sceptism towards the director of the movie.

Mood food: porridge with honey

Since I don't use it anymore, my french became very bad. Such a shame, it's a reallly beautiful language! So I decided to re-improve my skills by reading some french literature

And another outfit from this week. I really like this shirt, I wonder why I don't wear it more often. I had to round the skirt, since it's a circular skirt, it tended to point (I wouldn't have to fix this afterwards if I had let it hang out a few days before sewing the hemline *hem hem* xD )

Inside Your Restless Soul, Your Heart Is Dying

Hi everyone,

so I have two weeks springbreak and it's the most beautiful weather outside. If life was always that nice and sunny!
Saturday night, I went to the cinema and saw Sucker Punch. I must confess, although I'm notmally not that into action movies, this film is really good, somewhere between Prison Break and a computer game, but with a surprising aesthetics and five cool actresses. I recomend it to those who like exciting (and a little bit creepy) movies (^.^).

°~°~°~°

Then I made a new corset. It's odd how corset making can be addictive. This time, I used this pattern from Ageless Patterns and modified it silghtly. I took a purple velvet-like fabric and silver eyelets.

Unfortunately, Venus has completely different proportions than I have, so it looks very crumpy. But I hope you can see what is meant.

The cut is beautiful, isn't it? It makes a wonderful hour glass silhouette.

And because I had some fabric left, I decided to make my very first pair of gaiters. It took me a bit of trial-and-error and two test pieces until I had the right shape, but now I'm pretty content with them.

Is This The End Of The World As We Know It?

Hi everyone,

you all heard what happened/is still happening in Japan. At this point, I'd like to express my concernment and wish all the people in Japan and their relatives and friends a lot of strength and hope. I also hope that these incidents make the goverements all over the world think about nuclear power plants and the associated danger.

Normally, there would be an Inspiring Sunday post today, but I thought I'll recommend you a movie instead: 9, an animated end time film about 9 rag dolls who try to save the world after mankind has been eradicated by evil machines. An affecting story about courage, trust, betrayal and the question if it's really worth it to give your life for revitalisation of the world.

2 Outfits

Hey everyone!

First of all, thank you so much for 45 followers! I love you all! (platonically xD)

After a little hiatus, I finally managed it to wear (and photograph) Lolita again.

With this Outfit, I went to a café and then to the cinema to see True Grit. The movie was not that bad, since I like most western films, the landscape and the costumes were adorable, just as the camera work. Although the plot was a bit tenacious sometimes, I think Hailee Steinfeld acted very well.

Vinyl And Vintage

When it's about certain things, I'm terribly old-fashioned. Recording mediums, for example. We used to have a record player when I was little, and I simply loved it. The fascination for the turning record, the quiet clicking noise. I've always been dreaming of a real antique grammophone. Unfortunately these are pretty rare and expensive, but I finally found a relatively good record player which was still affordable for me.
I'm quite impressed by all the buttons and the technique that seems to be in this thing. I'm very happy with it, the few disc records I own go perfectly, and maybe I'll get the old ones from my uncle. He has several discs from the 80ies (you know, the time when music still was good music), I'd love to hear them.
°~°~°~°
Then, I was at the cinema to watch Burlesque. I can't see why there were such bad reviews, I thought it was great. The music, the costumes, the whole burlesque thing... I hope I'll see a real burlesque show once.
I wore my new skirt (the shirt, by the way, is this one).
I even adapted my make-up to the skirt. It's somehow quite long time since I last used coloured eye shadow, normally I go with good old black one (^.^)

Adding Lilac To My Wardrobe

Yesterday, I went to the cinema and saw Rapunzel in 3D. I'm still not really convinced of it, but the film was very good, I laughed and cried both. This is what I was wearing:
Not my best-facial-expression-day, I'm afraid.
°~°~°~°
Today, I went shopping and spent ways too much money.
First, I bought this wonderful vintage skirt. So far, lavender or lilac was not pesent in my wardrobe, which I'd like to change a bit. I mean, it's such a wonderful colour! The skirt is too short to wear with Lolita, and I'll have to take it in, but the print is so adorable!

Then I made the obligatory side trip to H&M, where I got two pairs of bright lace tights, a cute bow belt and some silver hair clips, everything on sale (yay!).
The two omnious things on the right are sewing machine foots: a Teflon foot and, finally, a ruffle foot! I'm so glad I have one now, so my life will be soooo much easier from now on xD.
Talking about the ruffle foot, there are two bigger sewing projects in my mind, where it will take an important role. For those who are curious, here's a little hint for one of the projects:
Now I'll only have to find some pretty buttons... guess what I'm planning?

Casual Attempt

Recently, I tried wearing more casual Lolita on normal week days. With the one on the left, I went to town with my sister. You can't see it very well, but I'm wearing this shirt. Finally, we went to the cinema and watched Der letzte schöne Herbsttag. Although The film was not too bad in my opinion, there were only six people (my siter and me included) in the cinema.^^
I took the picture for the second outfit by night, so you can't really see much of it, I'm sorry (I tried to make it a bit better, but now it looks rather creepier than before). I'm wearing my standart black skirt and this blouse. That day, my sister and me went with my father to the Foundation Beyeler (a museum) in Basel to an exhibithion about Klimt, Schiele and Vienna in 1900. I'm still not that into paining art, but there were quite a lot people, so we didn't even find a place in the museum café.
The third outfit is with a skirt I actually do not really like to wear, because no matter how often you iron it, it refuses getting de-wrinkled. Nevertheless, I got a compliment for it.^^
°~°~°~°
So, and now it's almost tea-time! (Btw, Victoria Suzanne wrote a very interesting post about tea in her blog! If you're a fan of tea, check it out.)

Finishing Harry Potter 7 is like destroying the 7th Horcrux of my chidlhood

Monday, I was in the cinema watching HP 7, the first part. As being a HP nerd, I've read all the books several times, some (not all) even in English. So far, the movies weren't my favourite ones, otherwise said, I thought they were quite bad made. So I didn't expect much when I went to the cinema (even if the films are bad, I can't be without having seen them). The fact the film was splitted into two parts seemed to call for commerce, I mean, the other six movies had shortened the story so much you had to have read the book so that you could follow the plot. So why couldn't they do the same with the last one?
But I have to confess, the movie really affected me. It is made so great, I wouldn't have bothered sitting six hours in the cinema. I don't know whether I'm just less critical or if it's because they have a new director or maybe the film is really better. After have seen HP 6 in the movies (it was last year, wasn't it?), I haven't read any more HP, but when I was In the cinema on monday, I suddenly felt quite sentimental. At age of 11, I started reading Harry Potter, and since then he and his friends accompanied me through adolescence. I've learned so much from these books, about friendship and folloing your heart and everything. Finishing the 7th book was already bad enogh, but now the movie era goes to an end, too. Oh, I wish I wouldn't have to wait until summer to see the second part.

Kiss The Demons Out Of My Dreams

I hope I'll get some better titels for my posts soon...
Anyway, last night I was out with my sister, we went to the cinema and watched Goethe!. The film was okay, very pathetic, quite funny sometimes, and of course I wanted to see it because of the costumes. They were made really great, as it takes place more in under class, they naturally weren't very expensive. But I liked it (and I shoud stop putting on eye make up for the cinema *sigh* or at least get some waterproof mascara...)
I haven't had the time to dress up in Lolita recently, so I did yesterday. I wore my black skirt and my new bow tie blouse.
I'm sorry for the blurry picture, I'm thinking about getting a better camera, as I like photographing, too. So here we go with a close up:
Here, I'm sorry for the stupid facial expression. But you can see the bow better (and a bit of my cute anchor earrings <3)

And these are my new shoes. I really didn't want to buy another pair of shoes, but then I noticed that I don't have any black winter boots (women, you know...) and the I fell in love with these darlings. Actually, I wanted some without heels, but I just couldn't resist... Oh, and they're pretty warm, so I probably won't wear them again for going to the cinema...
